MINISTER'S COLUMN
Live well. Enjoy the summer!! In Ministry, Dave MODERATOR'S NOTES As the church year has drawn to a close and we anticipate freedom from the usual Sunday morning church routine, we also anticipate the summer activities which keep us in contact with each other until our ingathering service in September. The details are still sketchy on most of the events, so please do keep in touch if anything interests you and you want to be notified. As a result of our symposium on nature Bill White agreed to lead us in a nature walk, sometime in July. Hopefully he'll be available on our chosen date, if not, we'll reschedule. A date has been set for a work party at Dave and Linda's. We won't know what the task will be until the time draws nigh and at what time we'll gather. We who like to sing have often thought that it's a shame that we only go caroling during the Christmas season, so we decided to try some "summer caroling". We also wanted to have a Covenant circle during the summer and it seemed fitting to do both activities on the same day. We'll gather for the circle at 10am. Afterward those who want to sing can stick around. As a result of one of our board "brainstorming" sessions we came up with the idea of getting together in the church basement on hot summer nights (maybe we'll have some) to make "pledge premiums". You know, those little gifts you get for making your yearly pledge. Maybe, just maybe, we'll come up with some real artistic treasures. Also we may begin work on a quilt (maybe from wool fabric) to be auctioned or raffled. No date (or dates) set. If you're interested please be in touch. The church retreat is still in the planning stages. Details will be announced later. We have not yet scheduled a date for the rummage sale. In past years they were held in early summer. This year it will undoubtedly be late summer or early fall. As we won't be having coffeehouses during the summer and will have space in the basement to store things, we can accept donations after June 5th. If you have items to donate please contact me or another board member for access to the church. No donations of clothing this year, please! Have a wonderful summer! ...Karen GREENING UP It is with joy that I see the greening spring all around me. I was away from my home during my "sisters retreat" in early May for four days and saw a remarkable progression on the season when I returned home: Several daffodils are up in my yard, the forsythia bloometh, Deb's tulips, planted in front of the barn, may actually bloom soon, Henry's hollyhocks are coming up, and the apple trees are truly leafing. Joy all around. Let me just mention that green of another sort also lifts the heart of a Treasurer in summer. When we do not meet regularly, I am always grateful for the summer contributions and pledges that help us to pay the minister and keep the church building operating. My address is Susan Glick, 652 Back Ridge Rd., Littleton 04730. Please fill my rural mailbox with your faithful pledges during the summer and we'll all keep the church a healthy community through our pooled contributions. Have a green and enlivening summer! Love, Sue Glick WORDS OF THANKS WISH LIST FLOWER COMMUNION & BBQ Our traditional flower communion service is Sunday, June 5th. Please bring a fresh cut flower to contribute to the communion basket. This Unitarian tradition originated in 1923 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Dr. Norbert Capek asked his parishioners to bring and receive flowers as a symbol of their shared life as a spiritual community. If it's a nice day, we will once again blow bubbles on the front lawn of First Church to celebrate the conclusion of another successful church year. Following the service we are heading to the Rheinlanders for a BBQ,Extreme Croquet Tournament and horseshoes as well. The picnic is pot-luck. Please call Ann at 532-3383 for details as to what to bring. CALENDAR
